The Possibilities are Endless
One of the reasons why many of us keep going along in the same rut is that we don’t stop to consider any other possibilities. On my home page, I ask questions about the 5 W’s of your life – Where is your natural habitat; What do you want to do; Why do you want to do it; Who do you want to do it with:; When do you want to do it?
Just for fun, I’ve compiled a list of some of the many possible answers to each of those questions – maybe there are some that you hadn’t thought about or you might think of others.
Take a few moments to just daydream with this page and create an “ideal life.” Don’t worry about whether it can be done or not - this is just an exercise to expand the possibilities that you think about.
Where: (there are two parts to this one)
Geographically:
at the beach, atop the mountains, in an urban area, in a suburb, in a small town,
in a college town, out in a rural area, in a foreign country, up North, down South, out West, on the East Coast, near a lake, on a river, in the desert, constantly traveling
Situation:
On a college campus, in a school, in a laboratory, at a studio, primarily indoors, almost always outdoors, in a historic place, in a cubicle, in a large, busy room, in a small quiet room, at home, at a library, in a skyscraper, in a country cottage, at a restaurant, at a coffee shop, at a tropical resort area, in a winter sports area, on a boat
When: 9 – 5; all night long, only on weekends, for a couple of days a week, only 9
months a year, hard at it for a couple of years then take off, while the kids
are napping, do one thing for six months and something else for the other six
Who: Alone, as part of a team, within a large group of people, with the same
people all the time, with different people all the time, with creative people,
with techie people, with academic people; with scientists, with seniors,
with children, with teenagers
What: writer, speaker, researcher, teacher, artist, organizer, healer, leader,
volunteer, counselor, inventor, spiritual leader, coach, yoga instructor,
psychic, dog-walker, forest ranger, taxi driver, black jack dealer, furniture
designer, book illustrator, journalist, advice columnist
Why: to do something meaningful; to challenge yourself; to share your talents; to
create something beautiful; to help others; to make money; to become famous,
to set a record, because you’ve always wanted to, because you know you can
Now take a piece of paper, or a page in your journal, and write down your answers. Just giving your dreams the light of day will allow your heart and mind to embrace new possibilities. You will be amazed at what will begin to happen if you allow it. |
