10 Reasons Why You Might Consider Quitting Your Job

1. You are bored – your responsibilities are not challenging anymore – your work is routine and there is no opportunity for growth.

2. You are underpaid – you feel unappreciated and believe that the company takes advantage of you.

3. Your boss is a jerk – you are ignored or maybe you are picked on by a bullying boss –he/she takes credit for your work.

4. You have nothing in common with your colleagues – you are a different person at work than at home – you feel uncomfortable expressing your personal thoughts.

5. You spend more than an hour commuting to work every morning – you have no time to go to the gym or stop by the library – you miss quality time with your friends or family.

6. Your work is meaningless - your tasks only contribute to the corporate bottom line – you don’t feel any personal reward for your efforts.

7. You are not respected for your contributions – you are taken for granted and not given credit for your achievements.

8. You don’t derive any joy from your work – it is drudgery and you can’t wait to leave and use every possible excuse to leave early or come in late.

9. You hate getting up in the morning – dread going into the office – you find any excuse to stay out, go in late or leave early.

10. The stress of putting up, keeping up or shutting up is killing you – you suffer with frequent heartburn, bouts of high blood pressure or headaches.

11. You never wanted to be a _________in the first place – it’s a family business – your Dad was the same thing – a career counselor suggested it and you got a job with good perks.

12. You always wanted to be a________________instead but life just happened.

Life doesn’t have to just happen – you can make changes and design the life that you want to have.

But quitting a job is a huge decision, and should never be done impulsively or without planning for the future.  If more than 3 of these reasons made you nod your head yes, then maybe it’s time to start considering something new.  It might be taking your skills to another place with a different atmosphere, or it may mean challenging yourself to reflect on the priorities of your life and designing a new life and work.
